OPTIK Birmingham, recently finalized a deal to take over the optical departments at Oakland Ophthalmic Surgery in Troy and Birmingham.
Dr. Joe Ales, OPTIK’s owner, has differentiated his boutique from large chains and other local shops by carrying many niche eyewear brands as well as being the exclusive seller in metro Detroit of a number of frame lines, as well as offering one of the largest selections in the country of original, vintage eyewear. He also finds success in being social, “beyond social media, my staff and I are involved in local community and charity groups and make a point patronizing popular restaurants and bars around town … it sounds simple but so few merchants engage in traditional socializing,” he explained.
Further, OPTIK sells private label frames and in the near future expects to manufacture its frames locally.
